Can I put a trellis on my neighbours’ fence?

You cannot do anything with a fence that’s owned by your neighbour. That includes putting a trellis, hanging baskets, painting, staining, or using preservatives. Ridiculous as it may sound, anything that you do to your neighbours’ fence, whether it improves it or not, could be construed as criminal damage.
